About BMIT

About the institute

Who we are

A tuition-free institute of technology, built so that ability, not income, decides who gets to learn.

Our story

Education as a public good

Bulilima-Mangwe Institute of Technology is run by BMIT NPC, a Non-Profit Company registered with the CIPC in South Africa under registration number 2018/668024/08.

We serve underprivileged communities across Bulilima-Mangwe and the wider continent. By building on Open Educational Resources, we keep the institute tuition-free, so a lack of money never has to mean a lack of learning.

Our vision

The Maphungubgwe Valley

Our vision is to become a leading institute for Economic, Management, and STEM education, and to help build a Maphungubgwe Valley, the Silicon Valley of Africa, by 2050.

The name honours the Mapungubwe and Kalanga civilization that once flourished in this region. We believe the next chapter of that story can be written by the leaders, entrepreneurs, scientists, and engineers we help to raise.
